The
story
Owned and ran by the Vogiatzis family, and open since 2002, Soboro Beer Bar & Restaurant is situated in the beautiful historical village of Afytos, Halkidiki, a short walk away from the central square and the byzantine church of Agios Dimitrios.
Once through the door of the family owned business you will be greeted by a warm, friendly atmosphere created through our comfortably familiar interior and our welcoming staff.
It is our pleasure to serve you from morning until night a great variety of Greek products from beers to fine wines, coffees and refreshments, not to forget our delicious, authentically twisted Greek food.
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well” – Virginia Woolf
The
idea
We believe in providing the best quality, freshly prepared food at realistic prices. Our products are sourced locally or nationally where possible, to provide that authentic taste of Greece.
Taking inspiration from the local area, the Vogiatzis’ not only produce their own olive oil, cold pressed and Extra Virgin, but most of their herbs used in Soboro come from their garden. They pride themselves on continuously learning and evolving along with the rapidly changing sector of food and beverage.
“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.” ― Hippocrates
The
concept
The food at Soboro is all about contrast – experimental meeting traditional. Along with his chef, and his partner Nancy, Alex passionately focuses on fusing Greek ingredients and love of traditional dishes with that twist from Western Europe.
For millennia dieticians, doctors, philosophers talk of the health benefits of the Greek cuisine, the Mediterranean diet. With every new trend that comes and goes, the ancient Greek cuisine remains as a guide line, as an inspiration for what is good; simple natural products, strong flavours, and aromatic herbs.
Not forgetting its roots as a Beer Bar, Alexandros consistently searches for great beers to serve his clientele. He is passionate that everyone should have the opportunity to drink the award winning Greek craft beers that are available today, not only to be served the usual mainstream lager beers which are globally available.
